I AM ON A ROLL!!!

I’m psyched about this new adventure and I need all your support…

I just made my first shipment to Canada, a customized shredded tee-hee :D

I was just soooo giddy and happy. Totoo na ito!

Things can be quite expensive here in Paris, good thing the stuff (films & threads) from Papadom is now here, aruruteynkyu Mawj for bringing it! :D  My atelier is now in a creative mess but it’s part of the joy of creating. I am now busy preparing the packaging, tags, shooting and making new accessories. The silver charms, I bought here, so it’s kinda pricey but I am excited to create new accessories for the shop with it. Aside from pre-loved items, everything is just handmade. I hope you can make time to check out my e-shop http://rockandrule.weebly.com/ I can ship anywhere or we can also do meet-ups if you are in the area :D

Alongside this new adventure, I would also need to prepare for another upcoming show, hahahaha, so again I say LET’S DO THIS! Let’s ROCK & RULE!!!

It was my first time to sleep in my atelier. What I normally do was come here everyday to play and go home to be with my A. But now I need more time and my own space to just focus… I want to experience living and sleeping with my art :) I’ve never really had my own space to just create. My creative space is everywhere;  it can be my father’s studio, my sister’s living room, my friend’s kitchen or A’s couch. But  now I have my atelier here in Paris and I realized how important it is to have one’s own space to just be…

Woke up with my first snow from my atelier. I was just sooo happy and giddy to see these white fairies outside my window. What a magical day to wake up to. I decided to go out and shoot. It’s been by far the most fruitful day I’ve had :p

Today is also the first day of the cleansing and I survived it. I guess it also helps to be in your own space and not be surrounded by food. I’ve never done this in my life, I always, always have food in my mind, even now… My world revolves around food. The leitmotif of this blog was about food. It is my joy and comfort.  So this cleansing is truly a big sacrifice, for my health and for my Art. Yep yep, this is an artistic research, part of a concept I have about Consumption…

CLEANSING DAY 1: had a whiff of freshly baked goodies from a boulangerie… Control, control, I am in control…

31 Decembre 2009 / 1 Janvier 2010

I have this ritual every New Year of re-reading past journal entries to look back and then move on…

”Living in a parallel universe is like having the best of both worlds but sometimes I wish we could just be together, anywhere and everywhere.”

“I am at my happiest when I’m with you.”

“People who are meant to be together should be together.”

A dream we dream together is reality

BONNE ANNéE ! ! !

Looking forward to having  more New Years with you :D

30 minutes before New Year’s Eve, Mithi (my mac laptop) gave it’s last breath… He just hanged himself :( I thought it was still possible to resuscitate him but it’s kaput. I hope he is in Mac heaven now…

ART talks… January 25, 2010

28 Decembre 2010

It was a long queue in the biting cold but Centre Pompidou, I will always love you!!!

Discovered Soulages black strokes, Jim Hodges DIY feel artworks and Surrealism’s birth. Shocks, nagphophotomontage at photogram na sila noong unang panahon pa, ang tindi!!!

According to A, we were waiting in line for almost an hour and he was getting a wee bit tired and irritated. I think I can always find ways to kill time. I can easily escape  in my head or find something interesting to do…

I write down my thoughts on paper or save it on my phone whenever I see interesting works, here are my notes…

image from the Net

PIERRE SOULAGES

known as the Painter of Black. His color palette/style was called Out Renoir or Beyond Black…

“The Black took over the whole surface of the canvas.”

image from the Net

It is all about big black brush strokes, textures and reflection of light. You can see the brush strokes like you can see him painting it. I begin to imagine where each stroke ends and begins… The trace and remnant of a movement.

NOTE TO SELF: just let go, go with the flow. Feel it, tear it, discover where it wants you to go, explore where your art wants to take you…

BIRTH OF SURREALISM

“Surrealism is absolute freedom of the imagination.”

From a photo collage: “Faces covered and removed, her body now reduced to a generic erotic madness.” Grabe, there were already photo montages in 1925!!!

I like this title: Ceci est la couleur de mes reves by Joan Miro

(This is the color of my dreams)

photomontage by Salvador Dali taken from the Net

I saw works by Salvador Dali (images of erotic faces. photomontage in the shape of an ear), Man Ray and other artists who started all these contemporary artworks way way back… Whatever we see now in the contemporary and modern art scene, it all came from these… Bow talaga ako! It’s like, nothing now is original, it is all just a re-interpretation of the past…

JIM HODGES

It was only this part of the museum that we were allowed to take photos. I like the DIY feel, the simplicity and rawness of Jim Hodges’ works :)

Got out of Centre Pompidou at around 9 in the evening. We were inside for 5 hours I think. I need a whole day to really soak everything in. “A” said the works were more quantity over quality. There were some good pieces but a lot of it were crap too, he said. For me, I remember the good ones that inspired or moved me or pieces that made me think. It was nice to see the beginnings of what we may know now as Contemporary Art. But yah then you realize that until now there’s really nothing new, everything is just repeated and recycled… But I guess Art has evolved somehow, we will always use the past as a reference. We need the past to move forward…

hanging out with Pinoy homies January 15, 2010

Filed under: Uncategorized — theartofeveryday @ 2:50 am

Finally got to meet up with some Pinoy homies here in Paris! Jigs Mayuga (L’Oreal head make up artist) and his friend Bianca Salonga (fashion writer for Mega Magazine) dropped by Cite des Arts where we just started shrieking when we saw each other.  Hahahaha, zhuzhal!

They were my first pinoy visitors in my atelier, Bienvenue!!!

quiche and salad

Bianca's chicken with pureed potato

the sinful lemon meringue pie which I split with jigs

and brought them to my favorite hang-out where we ate to our hearts content :p

We had a nice time catching up and sharing stories.  They thanked me for bringing them to this place,  Bianca said she will surely come back here. Hope we all get to hang out again :)

xmas trees for sale

xmas trees for sale

I stopped spending Christmas a long long time ago. My last home-cooked noche buena was when I was but a small girl, hehehe. I mean really… I would sometimes go to Banaue, Baguio or Sagada and welcome the New Year on my own.  I have this ritual of re-reading all my journal entries of that year, it’s sacred time for me…

L of Death Note

the devil from Futurama

totoro and ultraman

towelie of South Park

But this time I am not alone, I am spending my first Christmas holydaze here in Paris with my A and our first REAL christmas tree (which I decorated with A’s toys, my earrings and plastic dinosaurs, aylavettt!) . Halukatdat! Had a nice intimate celebration witn A’s parents and had a hearty organic meal. My contribution for the noche buena – lumpiang gulay and tortang talong and for dessert, strawberries with balsamic vinegar on vanilla ice cream.

A nice and fun musical night with my French Family :D Good champagne and wine, great food, cool jamming, lovely gifts, philosophical conversations (essence vs existence) and wonderful company.

Joyeaux Noel tout le monde!!!

my first ever real xmas tree :)

Drove around Paris with A and  phoenix (A’s  black Twingo)…  Saw the Obelisk, Arc de Triomphe and of course the Eiffel tower.  Ahhh Paree you are such a beauty! Je t’aime a la folie

I dunno if I’ve mentioned here that it’s been my longtime dream to come to Paris. I was supposed to come here after our World Youth Day coverage in Italy long long time ago, we even had a hotel reservation. Kaso ang daming Pinoy na nag tnt noong mga panahon na iyon so yung iba nadamay na at kinailangan na ring umalis at umuwi sa kani-kanilang bansa. Luckily, we were able to extend a few more days and went to Venice instead.

Hayy Venice, kakaibang langit din ito.  I consider Paris, Venice and Batanes to be my heavens on earth… And when I die, I want 3 loved-ones to scatter my ashes in these heavens. But first the ceremony, jamming and ritual would take place in my favorite cemetery in Sagada then the scattering of my ashes… naks!

Ok back to the main story now, so my second opportunity to come to Paris was for another shoot. I have my concept and outfits ready when I encountered some problems with my boss. I tried to defend meself but in the end she gave the opportunity to another colleague.  I was devastated…

It was almost 4 years ago when I finally put things into my hands and made my dream come true. I saved enough money to go to Europe for a month as a birthday gift to myself.  It was the best feeling…  I went to Paris,  fell in love with the place and with A.  Sigh…

And now here I am, driving around Paris with my cosmic beloved… Singing “heaven, I’m in heaven…”

O Lynchian Night January 4, 2010

Filed under: Uncategorized — theartofeveryday @ 1:59 pm

22 Decembre 2009

Being back at Cite des Arts also meant getting to watch different kinds of concerts in our auditorium for free. This month you can have an Opera singer from Russia and then the next month you have an extended vocal technique performance artist from Asia…

tonight it’s an experimental electronic sound collaboration from two Finnish Artist…

The sound coming from their gadgets are other-worldly… There are no exact melodic rhythms nor patterns to follow, it’s more like listening to a jamming of sorts.  I felt like the sound needed visuals, it was like listening to a musical scoring for a weird twisted film. “A” said its kinda like David Lynch’ style…

David Lynch made Mulholland drive, Blue Velvet, Twin Peaks… His films are somewhat surreal with meticulous sound design. He has a distinctive and unorthodox approach to filmmaking which was called Lynchian.

To use the Sound Performance as a scoring, I decided to look at the images in my camera… It got more interesting for me as it was like creating an impromptu story.

After the performance we all went to the stage to take a closer look at their instruments…

I tell you, there’s never a dull moment here at the Cite…
