A visual journal of the ART of Everyday

Featured Artist: VINCENT MOON April 18, 2012

PARIS –   I’ve been watching la blogotheque’s take away shows and dreams of not only catching a performance on the streets of Paris or inside private homes but also being part of the crew. So I did what I had to do, I sent them my hopes and dreams, but alas, no news…

~

Flash forward to 2012

~

MANILA  - The dream of working for La Blogotheque did not push through but the hope of meeting one of the creators did happen! I cannot believe that he is here, breathing the same humid air! French Filmmaker VINCENT MOON is in the Philippines, Halukatdat!!!

PARIS TO THE MOON AND BACK!!!

~

Tell us what you are doing now.

Riding a bus in Ethiopia

How did you discover your true calling? When was the exact moment you realized that this is what you really want to do?

I never thought of it like that. It happened, one day i look back and realize i have been walking on that path.

What did you go through to get it?

Complete and crazy desire to know everything.

~

~

What’s your style and what are your themes?

My style is my style, dont know what else to say about it. You are the one who is supposed to develop on this, not me ;)

What differentiates your style from the rest?

I have no idea what is the rest.

Where do you get your ideas/concepts/inspiration?

Travelling.

Do you have a ritual that you do before you start the creation? .

I stretch my legs.

Walk us through your regular day – do you work on one film at a time or do you do things simultaneously? Do you work better during day time or night time? Share with us your process..

It changes everyday ;) but its often complete chaos, mixing everything.

~

~

What are your weapons of choice? What kind of camera and microphone do you use to capture the moment? What gadgets do you bring when you shoot?

Often people ask me about how i record, film, create those colors etc… it’s all very simple, and here’s my little recipe. I film mostly those days with the Panasonic 171, on which I use a shotgun mic. I record sounds separately using a 4-track recorder, on which I plug from 1 to 4 standard Sennheiser wireless transmitters, using different laveliers, Sanken or Tram. I also use one or two ambient mics if possible on the 4-track , an omni directionnal and an ultra directional being a perfect deal. I often add to all this another isolated small recorder, the Zoom H4N being really good. I then work on final cut pro all of my edits, and even do the color corrections in it. What is it that you want to say through your art?

Something that I can’t say with words.

How has your works evolved into what it is now?

Constant curiosity.

What fascinates and inspires you? and how does it influence what you do?

Life in general, any elements. Mostly wind and rivers now.

~

~

Where do you want to bring your Art?

Around the planet in my bag.

What dream do you still want to fulfill?

No dreams. Just making things.

~

~

What keeps you going? What keeps you doing what you do?

The possibilities of developing some new ancient ways of being together.

What is the art of everyday for you?

Every elements.

Mornings like this . . . August 30, 2011

my atelier at 6am

~

Mornings like this I remember waking up in my atelier, playing tunes from The Morning Benders just like now, looking out my window, watching the bateau mouche cruise by the river Seine. I then make myself a cup of vanilla tea but right now I’m sipping coffee.

~

~

I do my morning exercise while hearing faint sounds of piano or cello in the background. This always put a smile on my face, waking up in my own space with a killer view surrounded by kindred spirits, I just feel grateful and truly blessed to be in this moment.

~

~

Flash forward to now… I wish I can do my morning exercise but I’m just too weak but doing something with my hands again strengthens me. I go back to my belief that my atelier could be anywhere (it used to be at a friends kitchen, my fathers bedroom in the province and my sisters rented apartment) but now with this holiday and upcoming handmade art fair, I started creating again.

D E C O U P A G E   This word appeared in my dream one time. As in that word written in my reverie. Wait, I will look for it in my journal… Ok here it is…

1 JANUARY 2008

I don’t remember the scene of my dream but I remember the word. It was a message telling me that I could get by with this, that I could survive just by creating…

~

~

Hahaha, I remember it being more prophetic than this. Anyways, that’s what I’ve been doing the past days. Cutting and pasting while sneezing and coughing. Healing through creating. Surviving…

I WAS HERE… November 15, 2010

Filed under: mon a-talyer,open studio,paris,paris walks,the 'hood — theartofeveryday @ 3:21 am

How did I spend my last day…

~

I spent it walking around my favorite ‘hood…

~

I spent it with friends and made new ones on my last-minute open studio…

~

Spent it packing memories and looking forward to making new ones…

It’s been months since I finished my Artist Residency at Cité des Arts and I must say I miss having my own creative space overlooking the river Seine right smack in my favorite ’hood. This time I said goodbye without regret or sadness even if I know this may be the last. The time I spent here has truly enriched my life and I am forever grateful for everything. I have learned a lot of things here, about myself, about art and about life.

Now, moving on…

I decided to have an aftershow party in my atelier after I CONSUME THEREFORE I AM…

I prepared some pasta and salad while the others brought some drinks

Musicians/Visual Artists/Dancers/Friends from Brazil, Iran, Germany, France, Japan, China, Finland, Peru, Denmark, Palestine and Philippines were represented.

I ended up being the Secretary-General of this United Nations partey :D

I give this little toys to different country representatives every time they earn points, hehehe.

I interviewed Afshin (Iran) for the documentary but he wasn’t around during the day of the performance so he watched the video instead.

Another point earned!!!!!!

There were other artists who just passed by and others whom I just met who also joined the party.

For dessert, I made my killer strawberry with balsamic reduction on vanilla ice cream. It was a big hit so I earned lotsa points for that :D Go Philippines!!!!

Conversations, Connections and Interactions abound.

Wassim brought some salad and Naomi brought some of her makis that she prepared. Points for Palestine and Japan! :D

the aftermath

Flavia and Micheline helped out putting stuff in the kitchen, points for Brazil :D

Last Woman Standing

I truly enjoyed this evening, I believe everybody did too.

It was intimate, fun and real.

I say, points for everyone!!!!!!!!

LIVE REPORT July 2, 2010

I HAVE INTERNET IN MY ATELIER!!!!!

This is a trial run, I’m not sure if I will continue this.

We have the choice to pay for internet access here but I chose not to because I feel that my atelier is a space to focus and create. And internet can just be sooooo distracting, like now! I should be editing and not blogging ;p Anyways, this might be the last live report from my atelier so enjoy. Here’s a rundown of todays event…

Here’s my breakfast or shall I say brunch because this was consumed at around 11 this morning

As you probably don’t know, I am cooking up a big spectacle (in my standards ;p), an upcoming show this July. It started out as a simple idea which turned out to be not that simple at all. I will keep this as a surprise so I will spare you the details for now.

This afternoon hasn’t been too easy. I know things doesn’t happen exactly the way we plan but today gusto ko lang sumugod sa gitna ng kalsada at sumigaw ng DARNA!!!! I had to clear my head and get out of my atelier so I ended up finding a bit of comfort in my favorite café.  Paid 15 euros to feel a wee bit better…

Went back here to continue working which proved to be difficult

Good thing Kanna invited me to her atelier where she made dinner (japanese pasta and green tea) for two. The food and company cleared away (the cobwebs and) the sorrow ;p I just needed to stick out my chin and grin and saaaaaay…

This has been Jazel Kristin reporting,
